Founded by Jonathan Voak in 1997, Atelier Limited is based in London and Jersey and deals mainly in 17th - early 20th century oil paintings, watercolours, drawings and etchings and offers a museum standard conservation service. The company operates from its office in Grouville, Jersey, and uses its London base near Tower Bridge to meet clients.
Atelier is unusual in harnessing the talents of a group of senior museum directors, curators and conservators, each at the top of their particular field. The group, all previously with the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, act as consultants to Atelier. They include a former head of works on paper conservation, one of the museum's most senior oil paintings conservators and a former head of photography who provides the illustrations for the company's catalogues. The Director of Atelier, Jonathan Voak, was with the Victoria and Albert Museum for many years as Head of Apsley House, the Wellington Museum on Hyde Park Corner, and was later Director of the Hunt Museum in Ireland.
Full colour catalogues are issued up to three times per year and specialise in the Channel Islands, early views of the London Thames with a special emphasis on the London Docklands, and marine paintings in general. A strong marine theme is usually balanced by a number of landscape, figurative and still life paintings.
Since 1997 Atelier has published twenty four illustrated catalogues. The current catalogue is kindly sponsored by BDO Alto Limited, the firm of international accountants and consultants.
The company holds annual Summer and Christmas Exhibitions at the Société Jersiaise, St Helier, Jersey and also occasionally in Guernsey. The company also exhibits in London at the annual BADA Antiques & Fine Art Fair in Chelsea and at the LAPADA Fine Art & Antiques Fair at the Royal Academy. In October 2008 it will also be exhibiting at the TVADA Autumn Antiques & Fine Art Fair at Radley College, Abingdon, nr. Oxford.
Atelier is a member of LAPADA, the Association of Art and Antique Dealers, and of BADA, the British Antique Dealers' Association, and of CINOA, the International Art and Antique Dealers Association.
