Frederick Sands R.I. (1916-1992):
Born in Liverpool, Frederick Sands came to Jersey in 1933. He left the island to become a
War photographer in 1939 and returned in 1946 after the Occupation. He taught art at de
la Salle College and was elected a member of the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour,
although he also worked in oils. He is best known for his sweeping coastal views, particularly
of St Ouen's Bay in Jersey.
