£3500

Daniel Turner (fl.1782-1820):
Daniel Turner lived at Millbank and was a, landscape, marine and portrait painter best known for his small, carefully finished, views of the London Thames, often including bridges. He was also a print-maker having acquired the skills as a pupil of the engraver John Jones (c.1740-1797) who practised in London and gained a reputation for his mezzotints. Daniel Turner engraved mostly London views although also produced a series of castles, abbeys and monuments in Scotland. He usually painted in oils although he was also an excellent draughtsman. He exhibited at the Royal Academy between 1782-1801 and also at the Free Society. There are two panel paintings by him in the National Maritime Museum depicting Nelson's funeral procession on the Thames in 1806 and three typical Thames views in the Tate Gallery of Westminster Bridge, Old London Bridge and St Paul's.
