Edward Henry Wehnert NWS (1813-1868):
German painter of landscape, genre and historical subjects, Wehnert was also an illustrator. He was born in London the son of a German tailor and educated in Germany where he studied at Gottingen. He returned to London in 1837 having joined the New Watercolour Society the previous year. During the 1830's he also lived and worked for a time in Jersey and Paris. While in Jersey he taught Sir John Everett Millais who was in the island in 1837 and 1838. He exhibited at the Royal Academy, British Institution, Royal Society of British Artists and the New Watercolour Society, of which he became a member in 1837. Collections: Victoria and Albert Museum.
